Cataract surgery

Modern treatment for cataract involves phacoemulsification. This is a day-case procedure which typically has very good visual outcomes. However, in patients with other retinal problems, a detailed discussion with a consultant specialising in retinal disease about nuances and expected outcome is recommended.

Treatment for macular degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a permanent cause of visual impairment. The treatment modalities for AMD are rapidly changing. Experts with specialist knowledge can provide valuable insights into the latest in research and therapy.

Retinal Laser

Lasers are an important means of treatment for patients with diabetic retinopathy, maculopathy and retinal vein occlusion. Different types of lasers are available and various techniques can be employed. Micropulse scar-free laser is one of the procedures used by specialists in this field.

YAG laser procedures

Many types of lasers are used by ophthalmologists to treat different conditions. Several months after cataract surgery, opacities can appear in the thin outer cover of the lens implant causing blurring of vision. YAG laser is used to remove these opacities. It can also be used to prevent angle-closure glaucoma.

Other retinal disorders

Several general health problems, including diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure, can influence the health of the retina. It can also be affected by certain drugs, by benign and cancerous tumours, infections and inflammatory diseases. It is important to evaluate the health of the retina regularly to identify problems early.

General ophthalmology

Many eye disorders require meticulous eye examination, regular monitoring and systematic management. Dry eye is one of the commonest causes of red, uncomfortable and light-sensitive eyes. Inflammation of eyelids called blepharitis is intimately associated with eye surface problems and needs careful supervision.
